Originally from El Paso, Texas, Amy completed a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree with a Spanish for the Health Professions minor from Texas Christian University. Amy began her yoga practice in 2012 after her sister strongly urged her to attend her first yoga class while home for the holidays. Eager to learn more about the yoga practice, Amy attended daily classes over the next two years. Through a consistent practice, Amy was able to work through the stress of nursing school and soon discovered her passion for teaching. While studying for her nursing boards, she felt a calling to attend the 28 day RY-200 Forrest Yoga Teacher training in May 2014 in New Haven, CT--personally led by Ana Forrest. Amy quickly discovered her passion and natural affinity to help others in what she could offer those around her in their own lives. She has begun studying for a Masters of Arts in Counseling at St. Edwards University here in Austin.
Amy completed her studies of Forrest Yoga in New York City with Erica Mather, a Forrest yoga mentor guardian, in a year long mentorship. She is continuing her work within the Forrest Yoga Community and is working to gain the title of: Level 3 Forrest Yoga Certification.
Amy’s style of teaching encompasses a physical, mental, and emotional challenge by using the four pillars of Forrest yoga: Breath, Integrity, Strength, and Spirit. She believes in sequencing her classes in a very logical, safe, and rewarding way for anyone and everyone. As a lifetime athlete and having dealt with numerous injuries, she as found that a modified and tailored class is her most rewarding challenge.
Amy began her yoga career during a very challenging time in her life, experiencing debilitating anxiety and depression. After her first class she fell in love with the practice and needed to learn more. She began attending classes on a consistent basis with amazing Forrest yoga trained instructors in Ft Worth, TX. Yoga played a major role in her recovery and still continues to do so. Amy’s dream would be to share her Forrest yoga and the tools it offers to make a change for the better in our busy high stressed lives.
Gift the tools to work through the stress, struggles and happiness of daily living instead of numbing out.
Re-discovering self-awareness, confidence, enjoyment, and getting back in tune with our natural needs, skills, and Spirit. Amy strives to offer each student and individualized practice based in injuries, needs, and desires to have a safe and enjoyable practice for a lifetime
And most importantly to have fun!
Forrest Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical and internally focused practice that emphasizes how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life. The practice challenges students to access their whole being and to use Forrest Yoga as a path to finding and then cleansing the emotional and mental blocks that dictate and limit their lives. Students cultivate an acute awareness of their own practice and life process, creating a unique and powerful opportunity for them to make practical life decisions based on their own experiences.
Forrest Yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly. The practice is founded on four pillars -- Breath, Strength, Integrity and Spirit.
BREATH Forrest Yoga teaches you how to breathe deeply, connect in feeling with your body, use the power of breath to bring aliveness into every cell of your body and ignite your passion for living.
STRENGTH Forrest Yoga teaches you to connect to your core, to be strong and centered. The intense pose sequences are designed to help you develop the skills to awaken each of your senses. The long holds help you progress in the poses and go deeper. Aided by the use of heat, your body is freed from toxins; the deep breathing oxygenates and rejuvenates every cell in your body.
INTEGRITY Forrest Yoga teaches you to become proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you, particularly with physical and emotional injuries. By learning to work honestly at your edges, you develop effective tools to deal with fear and struggle. This makes it possible for integrity, self-awareness and playful curiosity to become part of your daily life.
SPIRIT Forrest Yoga's intent is to create a sense of freedom, a connection to your Spirit and the courage to walk as your Spirit dictates.
